All members of the New Ulm Fire Department in dress uniformThe New Ulm Fire Department (NUFD) is a dedicated team of 39 firefighters including a full-time Fire Chief who serve New Ulm and its surrounding area. In 2019, NUFD responded to 116 fire calls and logged over 5,400 hours of training, meetings or volunteer service. Our firefighters volunteer for several community activities including the:

  • Bavarian Blast Parade
  • Brown County Demolition Derbies
  • ECFE Vehicle Fair
  • Hermannfest Fireworks
  • Lions Fly-In Breakfast
  • National Night Out
  • River Valley Dutchmen Hill Climbs

During Fire Prevention Week, firefighters also volunteer for school visits, open house, pizza night and the smoke trailer presentations.

Main Fire StationDepartment History

The NUFD was established in 1870. Engine House Number 1, commonly known as the Main Station, is located at 526 8th North Street. The fire station was newly constructed in 1997 and houses a:

  • City pumper
  • Grass truck
  • Ladder truck
  • Rescue boat
  • Rescue truck
  • Rural pumper
  • Tanker

Prior to 1997, the fire station was located within City Hall.

Goosetown Fire StationGoosetown Fire Station

NUFD established an additional fire station in 1890, Engine House Number 3 or commonly known as the Goosetown Fire Station.

The fire station was completed in 1990 and is located at 18 S Valley Street. The station houses 2 pumpers and also has a 47 foot drill tower.
